It’s kind of like online matchmaking. Which social media outlet is best for different types of businesses or non-profits who want to reach out to their customers? As of June 2010:
For Business to Business:
LinkedIn is a great way to get in touch with other professionals. If you'd like to contact another business in the area about possibly doing a giveaway, LinkedIn would be a good place to start.
Twitter is a great way for companies to publicize events, special deals, company announcements, etc. If you’re tweeting nothing but information about your business, people might not read your tweets, or worse, stop following you.
For Business to Consumer:
Facebook has more than 400 million active users (almost half of those users have joined in the past year). If Facebook were a country, it'd be the third-most populous in the world. It's a great way to reach a diverse group of people and establish ties with customers, other businesses and non-profits.
Do you have a training video you want your customers or employees to see? Want to get more mileage out of a TV commercial? Want to start a grassroots ad campaign? YouTube provides a platform where businesses can accomplish all of these goals.
For Business to Employee:
At this time we don’t recommend a business to employee social media company, but rather a social media policy for employers. Let’s face it, your staff is out there tweeting, liking, and sending out their profile. Since this is a topic that could be it’s own blog, we recommend you search around for more info on the subject.
For Non-profits:
Non-profits may want to check out facebook.com/causes, or YouTube. Bloggers promoting your cause can serve as an excellent resource.
There are tons of social media options to help your business grow. The key is to use (or not use) the right one.
